About Avery Pkwy

Avery Pkwy is the faith-driven rock project of singer, multi-instrumentalist and producer Joel Piper. Raised by missionaries in Mexico, he started the project in Orange County in 2007, before joining Confide. Avery Pkwy gives him room to bring the voice, the instruments and the production together around the questions that matter to him most.

His music includes WALK WITH YOU, Fear Has Lost, Tear Down the Idols and Chainbreaker. The songs carry themes of worship, freedom and surrender—not just as a musical setting, but as a way of living. In his conversation with The Forgiven, Joel speaks about rebuilding his faith, separating a gift from a calling, and finding worship beyond a stage or a church’s identity.

Leaving Fame to Find Christ

Can church become an idol? Joel Piper asks what happens when worship becomes a show and a church's identity takes the place of Jesus.

“I left everything to find Christ again.” Joel shares his account of leaving a Disney deal, becoming homeless and rebuilding his faith. We talk about inner healing, the difference between a gift and a calling, and why worship reaches far beyond the songs we sing.
