About XIII Minutes

XIII Minutes is an alternative metal band from Tulsa, Oklahoma, founded by drummer Jamie Kucinski. Their music pairs heavy guitars with melody, while the community around the band matters as much to Jamie as the time onstage. Their catalog includes Obsessed, Who Told You, Fake and Seeing Is Deceiving.

In his conversation with The Forgiven, Jamie talks about learning to trust God as Father after years of relying on himself. He shares how Jesus met him in grief and depression, and how mentors and a church community helped him find a place to rest. For Jamie, the band’s ministry often happens after the music stops—in the conversations with people who stay behind after a show.

Learning to Trust God as Father

Can you trust God when life has taught you to rely only on yourself? For Jamie Kucinski of XIII Minutes, learning to know God as Father meant learning a kind of trust he had never known growing up.

Jamie shares how he met Jesus, walked away from faith, and eventually returned. After his little sister was murdered, grief and depression brought him to the end of his self-reliance. He describes what he encountered in Jesus: “He didn’t judge me. He didn’t condemn me. In fact, quite the opposite, he sat with me.”

Jamie is the drummer and founder of XIII Minutes, an alternative metal band from Tulsa, Oklahoma. We talk about the mentors who saw something in him, the church community he calls home, and why the band’s ministry often happens in conversations after the show. We also discuss finding truth in secular music, the meaning behind XIII Minutes, and what it means to Jamie to be forgiven.
